Detect. Disrupt. Direct.
The 3D Protocol.
A three-layer in-the-moment tool. Detect your signal. Disrupt the cascade. Direct your energy to produce the state you want the room to feel. Practice it across enough high-stakes scenarios — and your nervous system stops treating pressure as a threat.
Three layers. One sequence. The order is not optional.
You cannot Direct what you have not Disrupted. You cannot Disrupt what you have not Detected.
Detect
You cannot interrupt what you cannot see. Most leaders are already mid-glitch before they realise what's happening — the freeze has started, the ramble is running, the shrink has already landed. The Detect layer trains interoceptive awareness: the ability to read your own nervous system state in real time, inside the room, with enough lead time to do something about it.
This is not meditation. It is applied, in-room body intelligence — trained until detection becomes automatic and faster than the glitch itself.
- Identify your personal pre-glitch signal — the exact physical, cognitive, or emotional cue that precedes your specific pattern, 2–3 seconds before it fires
- Learn to distinguish between nervous system states in real time: threat response, challenge response, or regulated safety — each requires a different action
- Build the detection window that makes interruption possible — without awareness, there is nothing to disrupt
- Informed by interoceptive awareness research and applied mindfulness — no sitting still, no journalling, no theory. This is in-room intelligence
Disrupt
Detection without interruption is just self-aware suffering. The Disrupt layer gives you two tools that work in sequence, targeting the two systems the glitch hijacks: your body first, then your mind. Both must be restored before you can Direct anything.
This layer is entirely inward. You have not spoken yet. You are restoring your internal state so that what comes next — your presence, your words — comes from a regulated source.
- ① Somatic Regulation — Targeted nervous system techniques calibrated to your specific glitch type. Polyvagal-informed tools that interrupt the biological cascade at its source. Not generic breathwork — precise, fast, glitch-specific. Your body returns to a regulated window before your mind tries to engage.
- ② Decision Science Protocol — Once your nervous system is no longer in threat response, you need your thinking back. A structured mental clarity sequence — drawn from applied decision science and 27,000+ real high-stakes meetings — that re-engages your prefrontal cortex in under three seconds. You access clear, organised thought when it counts most.
Personalised to your glitch type. Trained until both tools fire as one automatic response — not a conscious checklist you remember under pressure.
Direct
Once you are regulated, you don't return to neutral and hope for the best. You direct what you have. Your presence and your words are both signals the room receives. The Direct layer teaches you to send both on purpose — in sequence.
- ① Presence — direct your physical state. Before you speak, your body is already communicating. You learn to choose what it says. Want the room to feel your authority? Direct energy downward — weight heavy, feet planted, breath slow and low, movement deliberate and unhurried. Want the room to feel your precision? Direct energy inward — become still. Body quiet, breath settled, thoughts landing one at a time. These are not personality modes. They are somatic techniques you learn to switch on deliberately, depending on what the room needs.
- ② Communication — direct your words from that state. What you say is the verbal extension of how you are. From a directed, regulated body, your words carry different weight — structured, grounded, and impossible to dismiss. You learn to speak with the same intention you bring to your presence: choosing your opening, landing your point, holding silence without filling it. Communication in the Direct layer is not a framework you layer on top. It is the natural output of a state you have chosen.
The outcome: you become the most regulated person in the room — not because you are performing calm, but because your state is actually regulated and deliberately directed. The room feels it. Not as technique. As fact.
The 3D Protocol
An in-the-moment tool you use inside a high-stakes room, in real time. Detect your signal. Disrupt the cascade. Direct your energy. The protocol runs in seconds — not in the debrief afterward.
Exposure & Simulation
The outer ecosystem. You practice the 3D Protocol across progressively higher-stakes scenarios — board presentations, salary negotiations, conflict rooms — until your nervous system treats that pressure as normal. Chaos becomes familiar. The glitch stops firing.
The protocol is the skill. The exposure is the conditioning. Both are required. Neither alone is enough.
The 3D Protocol is not learned.
It is conditioned.
You can understand Detect, Disrupt, and Direct in an afternoon. You can nod along, take notes, feel it click. And then walk into your next board presentation and freeze anyway — because understanding and conditioning are completely different things.
The protocol only becomes permanent through repeated exposure across different high-stakes scenarios. Not because you need more information — because your nervous system needs more reps. This is how desensitisation works: chaos becomes familiar, familiar becomes normal, normal becomes regulated.
Your nervous system learns through experience, not instruction. Every time you run the 3D Protocol under real pressure — and the room doesn't kill you — your threat threshold expands. What once felt catastrophic starts to feel like signal. Chaos becomes your normal operating environment.
Simulated high-stakes rooms designed to activate your specific glitch pattern — then practise the override under that pressure, repeatedly. Board presentations. Hostile peers. Salary negotiations. Skip-levels. Each scenario expands your regulated range until the rooms that used to cost you become rooms you own.
The Lab is the environment where you run the 3D Protocol repeatedly — twice a week, across real peer pressure, in different high-stakes scenarios. The protocol is the system. The Lab is the training ground that makes it permanent. Learn about The Unbreakable Lab →
Why the protocol works.
The research behind each layer.
Polyvagal Theory
Stephen Porges' foundational research on the autonomic nervous system underpins how we understand why leaders shut down, fight, or disconnect under pressure — and how to restore the window of regulation. Pav is completing her Polyvagal Theory certification (October 2026).
Interoceptive Awareness
The science of reading your own internal body state — developed through mindfulness and somatic research. The Detect layer is built on this: the ability to notice your nervous system signal before it controls your output.
Decision Science
Pav holds a BBA in Decision Science from the University of Kentucky and an MBA from Kellogg (Northwestern). The Disrupt layer draws on applied decision science — how humans actually make choices under stress — not idealised rationality models.
Cross-Disciplinary Insights — Where the 3D Protocol Comes From
The PAVNESS 3D Protocol draws on regulation research and performance tactics from four fields that face genuine life-or-death pressure — then translates those insights specifically for leadership. Each field solved the same problem: how to remain regulated, think clearly, and communicate effectively when the stakes are at their highest.
A horse responds exclusively to your nervous system state — not your title, your preparation, or your performance. Working with horses for years gave Pav something no leadership course can teach: the visceral, physical knowledge of what genuine regulation feels like versus performed calm. That precision is encoded into every somatic technique in the Detect and Direct layers.
Special operations units and hostage negotiators train specific breathing and grounding protocols — not to feel calm, but to interrupt the sympathetic nervous system activation that degrades decision-making. Research on FBI crisis negotiators shows that regulated communicators achieve better outcomes in adversarial conversations by maintaining a lower, slower vocal pattern and holding silence longer. These principles directly inform the Disrupt layer's somatic regulation tools.
ICU teams and trauma surgeons operate under cognitive load that would paralyse most people. Research on high-performing medical teams shows two consistent behaviours: structured verbal protocols (saying decisions aloud in a fixed sequence reduces error under stress) and deliberate physical anchoring before high-stakes procedures. These are not coping mechanisms — they are performance systems that keep the prefrontal cortex engaged when threat response wants to take over. They directly shape the Decision Science Protocol in the Disrupt layer.
Conservatory-trained actors learn to direct physical presence deliberately — weight, breath, stillness, and movement as conscious signals to an audience. The Stanislavski and Meisner traditions both teach that authority is communicated through the body before a word is spoken. Research on non-verbal communication confirms that physical stillness under pressure is read as confidence and control. These techniques directly shape the Direct layer's presence anchors.
Deliberate Exposure
The protocol is not taught — it is conditioned. The same principle behind athletic performance training: you don't become regulated under pressure by learning about regulation. You become regulated by practising it under progressive pressure.
Applied Experience
23+ years inside Fortune 500 firms. 27,000+ high-stakes meetings navigated as a senior leader — not observed from the outside. The protocol is field-tested in the same rooms your team is in. This is applied science, not academic theory.
Every pattern has
a precise override.
Mind goes blank. Words disappear.
Trigger: Status threat · Public evaluation · Surprise questions
Protocol override: Detect the pre-freeze signal (often a shift in breathing or jaw tension). Disrupt the PFC shutdown via a specific somatic anchor. Direct attention back to a prepared anchor statement while breathing is restored.
Can't stop. Can't land. Can't recover.
Trigger: Uncertainty · Fear of being wrong · Need to fill silence
Protocol override: Detect the ramble signal (often a rising pitch or loss of physical grounding). Disrupt the anxiety cascade with a deliberate pause. Direct to a single structured answer frame — point, evidence, implication.
You go smaller. The room forgets you.
Trigger: Dominant personalities · Fear of conflict · Imposter signal
Protocol override: Detect the shrink signal (often a physical collapse or voice dropping). Disrupt the social threat cascade. Direct through a somatic authority posture and deliberate vocal commitment.
Edge shows. Authority cracks.
Trigger: Repeated pressure · Feeling dismissed · Injustice signal
Protocol override: Detect the pre-snap signal (often heat in the chest or a sharpening in the jaw). Disrupt the mobilisation cascade before it fires. Direct to a regulated response that holds the boundary without the edge.

"I had a C-suite presentation I had been dreading for months. After working with Pav's framework, I walked in regulated. I walked out with a standing ovation. My VP asked what had changed."
"I have done executive coaching before. This is completely different. Pav teaches you why your body does what it does — and then trains the override. It is the first thing that actually stuck."
"The rambling was costing me credibility for years. One session with Pav and I understood exactly why it was happening. Two weeks later I gave the cleanest executive update of my career."
